I'm not sure what people's problem was with this book. The story wasn't absolutely perfect, but it was really entertaining and had some wonderful human aspects. Many favorite characters from the series made appearances, and I really cared about the new ones in this story. The plot seemed fairly well thought out too. I wasn't crazy about the way a certain part of the story treated Hermione (if you've read it, I think you know the one), but overall, it was a nice sequel. I can't wait to see it on stage!

I had heard many mixed reviews of the book but was still excited to read it. First off it's a book of the play, so it's never going to read like a novel. Regardless of the format, it moved me. Moved me so much, and I was back there, engrossed in the wizarding world again. It was beautiful. Thank you JK.
Oh this one hurts. I wanted to like this so much. I was so thrilled to begin this new adventure. At first, it felt like the same magical world that I had always loved. I was intrigued by how they were moving away from some of the standard fare of the original series. I was eager to love this book.
And then they traveled in time.
From there on out, the script did its best to ruin everything I loved about this series. Left and right characters are warped from what we knew into pale versions of their former selves. They are twisted to meet the needs of this narrative. Ron, for one, is completely wasted. A wisp of his former self, truly relegated to comic relief with no redeeming qualities. He no longer represents the average wizard or witch. Hermione becomes that which she hates, despite her mantra of not turning into that.
Then there's the disregard for the established rules of the universe. The time turner works completely differently than in PoA. The fidelis charm is ignored. It just makes no sense. It's awful. Sure the time turner thing could be explained, but there are many other examples.
I really did think this was going to be the follow up that I wanted. Instead, it proves what we all seem to know: a successful series is best left alone. Keep your childhood intact. Stick with the original ending.

I read this before reading the Harry Potter series...yeah
I didn't get why everyone was so butthurt about it but then I read the Harry Potter series and this book feels ...empty. The Harry Potter books are just so....full? Lots of things happen, lots of subplots, lots of tiny details that become important later

The plot was interesting enough, and it was a quick read since it was a play. However, it lacked the depth and imagination that the other Harry Potter books had. It was difficult truly connect to the characters and become invested in what happens to them.
