I was lucky enough to go and see Harry Potter & the Cursed Child in the Palace Theatre on the 28th and 29th July, the last performances before its official opening gala on the 30th. And I have to say that the storyline is gripping, the special effects amazing and the actors really making each of their parts believable.

I didn't actually pre-order the book before it was released, deciding instead to buy it on the day of its release. Since I had a 3.5 hour train journey back home from London, it was great to delve back into the Harry Potter script and recalling each of the scenes as I read. The story has some great laugh out loud moments, and these alongside the plot-twists and sadder moments are exactly what you would expect from J.K.Rowling.

This is a great read if you aren't able to go and see the play yourself, or a great companion if you want to re-visit some of your favourite scenes from the play.

Well. It has happened. I have read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. And I am left with quite the book hang over as I poured over it in only a few hours. I'm not going to spoiler anything, but I'm giving it a generous 4 out of 5 instead of 3 because it's Harry Potter and I'm die-hard so really any kind of new HP publication is good. It was comical, dark, adventurous and original. However it just wasn't the same. Wasn't the same feeling, wasn't as magical, and there could have been so much amazing depth if this had been written novel style. I did enjoy it though. It read like fan fiction to me. It flowed well and was bittersweet with nostalgia for me. I have always been curious as to what JK Rowling thought the characters got up to when they were older, and it's wonderful to read about. However, having been the generation who grew up alongside Harry, awaiting midnight book releases, gushing over the books again and again with friends as the years went by, I will never EVER consider this the "8th chapter" or "8th story" I don't know why I feel so fierce about that. I feel like the books 1-7 are of a completely different entity than this play, which, although it was wonderful to read, I live in Canada and will basically never have the chance to see. This was a good script to read, fun and fascinating and interesting considering the writing style. But the series itself will have a special place in my heart. Always.

I don't know how to rate this & need some time to think

Ook zonder al te veel voorkennis kun je dit boek lezen en van het verhaal genieten. Het is echt een nieuw verhaal, dat je meeneemt in de wereld van de magie en toverkunsten.
fast-paced

Second time reading this, the 2-star rating still stands. I love Harry Potter, but I just can't support this book/script. It's so incredibly bad... the only reason I gave it a 2 instead of a 1 is because of Scorpius and the last scene.
I've heard many times that this is something you have to see live, and so I guess I'll reserve my (full) judgement until I'm able to do so.

DID NOT FINISH

It’s difficult to read the script. Would rather watch the play and get the full effect.

Great read! Definitely a nice follow-up to the Harry Potter series.
