Interesting story, but I found the author a bit pretentious and irritating.

I think I'd give this book 4.5 stars if I could.

Turns out, I love all the seedy details of life in a harem. Maybe I liked it more knowing it eventually came crashing down. Either way, the chapters on life in the harem were so engaging, I found myself wanting to read it when I really had other things to do. However, the flashbacks to other aspects of her life were just not as compelling. I think Jillian Lauren is an interesting person - I found her blog and wasted a good hour on it - but in this book, it's the otherworldly living in the harem that really captivates. That said, I'll happily pick up her next book on international adoption.

Verhaal zonder rode draad, behalve dan het zelfbeklag en de matige schrijfstijl.

Meh. I'm not sure what I was expecting from this story, but I was disappointed that I never really connected with the main character. Maybe I've just never had a strong desire to be a sex worker?

The writing styles wasn't bad at all, thought the story got a bit tedious about 2/3rds of the way through. I think I was expecting more of a sexy romp, and it turned out to feel sort of impersonal.

An interesting memoir - surreal.

It was a quick read. That's really the extent of positive things I have to say about it.

I appreciated that this story was not written for moralizing or titillation

This book basically tells the story of what would happen if Rachel Berry from 'Glee' went "bad." Still a decent, interesting read (and an unwitting chronicle of how much our world has changed since the early 90s).
