Hanamichi Sakuragi doesn’t have much luck when it comes to girls.
So far, he’s been rejected by 50 girls. Largely, it’s cause he’s a delinquent with a habit for throwing down at a moment’s notice. He’s know for being a muscle head bruiser.
When he starts high school and meets beautiful and sweet Haruko, Sakuragi thinks maybe his luck has finally changed!
Haruko is unphased by Sakuragi’s rough exterior and believes that, with his build and natural athleticism, he’d make an excellent basketball player.
And, if a basketball player is what Haruko wants, then that’s what Sakuragi is going to be!
But, does Sakuragi have more game on the court than he has with girls?
This is such a fun and dynamic start to a series!
I really how this story sets up its plot and how it is populated with a whole cast of interesting characters. We’re thrust right into the action—which doesn’t stop the whole way through. This is so fantastic to read—with all the dynamism and just constant movement of the characters. It feels so alive~
Definitely recommend this classic for any sports manga fans who—like me—haven’t gotten around to it yet~

Sakuragi has had many a crush on different girls, and after 50+ rejections he has come up with a new game plan. The last stinging rejection was because the girl he liked had her eyes on a basketball player. Sakuragi is tall and strong, he knows nothing about basketball, but has decided to become the best player ever so that he can land his newest crush, who is obsessed with basketball. Look out basketball team, here comes Sakuragi.
This manga was funny and different from the typical manga I read. It was sport and violent heavy. I think it will appeal to the male reader and other readers who like sports and are cool with an overwhelming amount of fist fights and blood. This title reaches out to readers that are not typically appealed to with manga.

Much like Yotsuba, Slam dunk made me smile and laugh from start to end.
Slam dunk is a manga classic, the sort you recommend to beginner manga reader because it's just hard not to love it and love its characters, its sense of humour and the drawing style.
I highly recommend if you aren't into mangas much because this is "it" for making you love them.
