Please read this book even though I didn't like it! This is a compilation of essays, poems, and stories from people living in Bahrain. The reason this has only two stars is because unfortunately the writing didn't hold up for me. There were several pieces with beautiful writing but mostly it's underwhelming. However, that is mitigated by the fact that these are folks who may be at the beginning of their writing career. So I think it's nice that this book gave them a platform. If I were to write a story, it would not be any better. 
The book does let you learn a lot about Bahraini culture. Gilgamesh and pearls were probably the most common themes.
