I couldn't like this book.
Yeah I was happy James got his happy ending, but I think I read it to soon after finishing Lament, 'cause I was still thinking about Luke. I felt sorry for Dee, at first I was hopeful she'd get with James, but then that goes to pieces. I kept reading the texts and thinking Luke was going to make an appearance, but overall I enjoyed the end.

Hm, where to start... I really liked this book. REALLY liked it. I would like a James of my very own, please. I loved James' sarcasm and attitude. I liked his snarky comments and outside persona, but I loved that we also got to know his inner vulnerability. Same for Nuala. Nuala was really cool, tough, and strong, but she had a softer, more unsure side. I liked her a lot more than I liked Luke in Lament. With Luke, I had a hard time feeling he was really telling Dee the truth, but I never doubted Nuala.

I really liked the story and the new cast of characters, especially Paul and Sullivan. Dee annoyed me in this book, though. It stinks because I really liked her in Lament, but she was so whiny in Ballad. I know she's been through a lot (to say the least), but I hate that she is still jerking James around. I wanted to feel more sorry for her because I liked her so much, but I just didn't.

So in conclusion - read this book! It is good. :)

I'm not really into faeries, but I am into music and I loved how much this book revolved around melodies, instruments, and talent. I was a little confused at first because this seemed to be a sequel to Lament and I guess I expected Dee and James to get together, but she ended up being a pretty minor character in Ballad. However, after I started this book, I read a few others I was borrowing, so it took me a little longer than it should have to really get into it-my fault, not the author's.

Is this the end of the series? I'd like to know more about what happens to these characters.

Definitely enjoyed this more than Lament :)
adventurous dark slow-paced

I am very impressed! A great read! This book has a feeling of a fairy tale, but has present day characters. This is a continuation of Lament, but with James as the main character, instead of Dee. The character named Nuala grew from a very unlikeable creature to one I can hardly wait to hear more about.

I thought this was a really good book. I loved how the author made you want to route for the underdogs. There were two in this book. I really had no idea how it was going to end, and I love that.By the end of the book I was torn on who I wanted to end up together and what I really wanted to happen verses how the story was actually playing out. The ending was a little blah, but mostly because I hate any book to end. I just didn't get a real feeling of closer with the characters. It kind of felt like she got tired of writing these characters so she ended the book really fast. The whole book was about the relationship between these three people and then there is no explanation of the relationships after the conflict is resolved.

I love these books! Ballad was the second in this series and loved it just as much as the first. The characters are so rich and believable. When is the third book coming out? I think I'm addicted. :)

Oooo boy...! Let me tell you guys, after Lament, I WAS SO EXCITED TO READ THIS!! And it was a let down. The Auther has a fantastic voice, I love her writing style. She writes in a very up beat and clear way that makes you feel as if you are the one writing, however, I would have written this differently, if I really had written it. I was so excited to get the scoop on Luke and Dee, and Luke isn't even in the book. Dee writes unsent text messages to James (the best friend/love interestish?) the whole book and like I said, they are unsent...to me, that is just ridiculous..why wouldn't you want to talk to your best friend about the things that are happening to you? Anyways, this book is about James and Nuala (A Fae) and their relationship at school and during the course of Halloween if they stay together, live, and what happens to the people in their lives, dancing with death...etc...I had such high hopes for this series because it encorperates music and some fun themes into it. However, nothing really happened that we care about...not sure if I should even read the next one....

Ballad brings James from Lament into the spotlight with Dee as a much smaller, almost background character and a new homicidal faerie who is fascinated with humans. And it was amazing!

Maggie Stiefvater's writing walks the line between beautiful and suddenly humorous. If you liked James before, you will absolutely love his narration and his egotistical thoughts and quick comebacks that have you laughing even in intense scenes. And believe me, there are plenty of intense scenes.

I loved Nuala as a character and though at first I wanted to smack her and get her away (*glowers darkly in Nuala's direction*) from James, she became incredibly easy to feel sympathy for. I wish Paul had been given a slightly more important role, but I'm thinking he--and Sullivan, too--will play a bigger part in the next sequel (...there will be one, right?).
