I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not only did it have interesting content, the author’s sarcasm and humor made it fun to read. I appreciated that he combined the stories of the people and other concepts of science in this book. I would highly recommend.

Really enjoyed lots of information, both science and history, that were super interesting to learn about. It dragged a little and at time a touch repetitive but overall really enjoyed! I’m not usually a huge chemistry girlie but this was great!
Bullet Review:
The one and only buddy book reads of 2020. What a year.

I listened to this in audiobook form. I think it would have taken me much longer to read, because the parts where I didn't really follow what he was talking about would have slowed me down. Instead, we just kept plowing ahead despite the fact that I am not a chemist and often could not picture what he was trying to show. I got the general idea, though, and I think it was good for me to "read" something so incredibly outside of my norm. Besides, it reminded me of other books I have read, such as "Radium Girls" and "The Other Einstein" and made me feel like it was helping me round out my scientific education. Heh
The stories were really interesting. For those of us who aren't chemists and likely won't come across this history any other way, I think this is the best way to get it -- via interesting and funny stories.

The Disappearing Spoon 5/5
This book did a great job of combining chemistry with interesting historical facts about the scientific figures and events surrounding the different elements on the periodic table. Filled with interesting tidbits as well as explanations of how chemistry works for a layperson to understand, this book is great for exploring the world of chemistry for both chemists and non chemists alike.

Fascinating - really, truly fascinating - stories behind all the elements of the periodic table, the periodic table itself, and all the brilliant and crazy people who helped put it together. A fun read.
