You know you have read a great book when you immediately want to read it again and share it with your friends. This is one of those books. Elika is an exceptional heroine. Besides being kind, generous to a fault and loyal, she is also courageous, hardworking and forgiving. Elika not only puts up with her sister’s bitterness and verbal abuse, but she also works tirelessly to pay for her treatments and stay at a luxury rehabilitation facility while her own accommodation is a tiny hovel. Family loyalty takes precedence over her own mental health and welfare. She shows her back-bone in the interactions with her sister and the relatives that Dean means to make his in-laws. In the face of spite, cruelty and rudeness, Elika shows grace, professionalism and stoicism. It is more than just needing to keep her job, it is also refusing to give her estranged relatives the satisfaction of seeing her break.
I truly like the dressing down she gives Dean too. His snobbish, judgemental and rather arrogant manner did not endear him to me. He redeemed himself when he finally saw his fiancée and her family for whom they really were and extricated himself from the engagement. Truthfully, I liked Dean’s family more than him, his father especially. He made sure his son saw the error of his ways, stepped into help Elika when necessary, then turned around and assisted Dean in his efforts to win Elika back. Dean is indeed not worthy of Elika, but love for her reforms him. Love wins out after all.
This extraordinary book deserves much more than five stars and has my highest recommendation.

I am in awe of how Maya is able to transport you to other parts of the world and cultures with her stories. I felt like I was vacationing in Hawaii.
I loved Elika and the strength that she carried. Dean was very snobbish to begin but was quick to recognize his faults and change his ways. I've said it before and I'll say it again that the way that Maya writes her characters you can fully understand why they act the way they do and make the decisions they make. Even when you dislike Dean and the way he is behaving you understand what molded him to be that way. I loved seeing his growth of understanding that he was not superior and seeing Elika's growth in standing up for herself.

love love loved this! one of my new favorites for sure; i can already tell it's going to be a comfort read. i wanted to smack dean upside the head a couple times but i loved elika so much. i thought this was a perfect end to the series! it was nice seeing cameos of characters from the previous books, including the parents. i liked seeing how far everyone has come!
