I'm having trouble defining my feelings about this book. On one hand, I think the union story needs to be told and intertwining the deeply personal and the historical is required for context. On the other, I really did not appreciate how much was written in second person and the moth digressions were annoying rather than charming and the author never truly addressed her own role in the power imbalance at the heart of this story - despite continuing to profit off of it in the form of writing a book...

Overall, I would recommend this but I would also recommend reading it with a critical eye.

Very interesting story, and the part at the end with the weird cult-like union trying to take over after the merger was particularly interesting (and angering.)

I have to admit, I think the author should have stuck to the story and the more labor centric historical asides. The Roman mythology, moth musings, and silkworm history felt out of place and like a distraction from what I actually wanted to know from this book.
Reminder that it is OKAY for your book not to pad out to like 300 pages if you can tell the story in fewer than that.
This, plus the sometimes grating 2nd person format, took two stars off. I also really wish more of the Spanish used in the book had been given a translation right after, because it's not really feasible to look most words up when you're listening to this as an audiobook opposed to reading it.
