MERCY WATSON SUPREMACY.

This was a cute book, we could have finished it in one sitting but I cut Emma off. It was really simple and a little silly. Emma wants to read the next story and I wouldn't be opposed to it, but not as high quality as our other recent reads.

I read this with Jane (my 5 year old) over the past couple days. She loved it and so did I! Very fun characters and plot. I don't know why I never read these to my older boys at this age. We will be getting the rest of the series at the library.

This book is filled with such whimsy and fun that one can almost hear it humming simply touching it. I almost expect the thing to glow it was filled with such frivolity and silliness.

A charming tale of a pig, Mercy, who lives with the Watson and in this story has to save her family. The art is all sunshine and smiles. I enjoyed this middle grade book.

Some light and happiness is a great way to start my day. Plus Kate is always an amazing author.

Audience whom written - age 6-9 (Amazon)
Audience whom appeal - K - 3/4
Strengths - Wonderful colorful illustrations on almost every page. Chapters are short and text is larger with good spacing on white background so it stands out and is easy to read. Mercy is a pig full of personality and her antics and conflicts with the neighbor give the books a little more depth to plot in order to keep older reluctant readers interested.
Weaknesses - one weakness of the series that Infelt was there is that we never find out HOW Mercy came to be part of the family. DiCamillo solved that problem by writing a Mercy “origin story” picture book.
Special considerations (artwork, curriculum links, community values, beliefs espoused) - The picture book could be used as a way to introduce readers to Mercy and encourage them to pick up the longer books. There is also a spin-off series of Tales from Deckawoo Drive which features different characters who live near the Watsons. Mercy makes an appearance in some of the books.
SLJ format: Your Verdict, supported with details from the book and about your audience. Verdict: Fun-loving Mercy will jump off the page and in to the hearts of readers with full color illustrations and well-paced text. A must have addition to libraries seeking early readers with a wide appeal to age groups.

Worth reading just to read the words "porcine wonder" in a kid's book.

I can’t overstate how much fun I have had reading these books with my grandchildren. They are a delight linguistically for adults and children- (the children have adopted several gems as catchphrases), the plots and characters are beautifully crafted so that we all laugh aloud with the joy of each new twist, the illustrations are perfect and they are full of joyous silliness that gives everyone a boost.

Not my favorite DiCamillo. But she has a lot to live up to. And it has pictures.

Hilarious and charming. Mercy reminds us of our dog, so sweet but not that bright.

The story is funny and cute, but I find the illustrations entirely unappealing.
