i read this to my little brother today, and um, it was- interesting? at least he enjoyed it
I picked this book up at the library after I finished reading The Tale of Despereaux to my kids. It is a very short chapter book, and we read it one night before bed. The story is adorable, but the illustrations are amazing! So bright and truly unique! I highly recommend it!
I remember the librarian reading this book when I was in school and it took me quite some time to find this book again, but I'm glad that I found it.

This is the first book in the original Mercy Watson series by DiCamillo. We read it tonight on Apple’s “iBooks” app. The app had a read aloud option so my kids listened to it while looking at the pages on the iPad. It was a nice way for us all to get our daily Kate DiCamillo fix while I tidied the kitchen.

Great book for young readers just getting into chapter books. It's funny and sweet and Mercy is adorable!

I agree with Mercy, nothing is better than hot buttered toast.
What I really liked was the sister who doesn't like Mercy being allowed in the house and so own. It would be easy to showcase her as the mean sister who no one listens to, but one fireman agrees with her. That was a nice touch.

I read this the first time with my 2.5 year old daughter. She was plastered to my side and didn't want to stop reading! It was a great story for her as it was simple but funny and there are still enough pictures, she could look while I read to her. She enjoyed it so much that she asked to read it again later today! That's a big endorsement from her!
