She's a "porcine wonder"! And I'm with her: there's nothing like hot buttered toast and a good chase ;)
The story was great and her use of descriptive language awesome but the story didn't read well as she uses the characters names over and over (I know this is her style in these Mercy books) but I found it kinda annoying and changed it when reading to my children. Much prefer her older children books (The Magicians Elephant, Incredible Adventures of Edward Tulane are both fantastic books).
YES! The kindergarteners (and my own kids) LOVED this book! I just need to develop my southern accent in order to read it aloud even better! What a blast. Love Kate DiCamillo. I wish she would come and read it to my class! :)
My children (9,8,5,3) love this series. It makes for a great aloud. Lots of opportunity for voices and sound effects. The illustrations are very engaging for little ones and really help to draw them into the story. The story itself is one of those that children will probably appreciate more than adults, but it still makes for a good family read aloud.
Instant classic. Charming characters, fun story, and playful illustrations launch a perfect series for growing readers.
Great author and illustrations. Fun story for the preschool/elementary crowd.
What an adorable story! Mr and Mrs Watson have a pig named Mercy and they sing to her every night. However, one night Mercy decides she wants to sleep in their bed, however this leads to the bed starting to fall through the floor. So begins this night-time adventure of Mercy. I read this with my 6 year old at bed time and we finished it in a few days. Very short chapters and colorful illustrations. This is a great introduction to chapter books for children ready that are ready to listen to longer stories. I can't wait to try the other 5 books!
Adorable first book in this children’s series. I appreciate this author for her wit as well as her expansive vocabulary. Can’t wait to read the next one with my kids!
