The book is amusing, and for a chapter book clearly held the attention of my three year old --which is saying something for a 40 page book.
At the same time, the entire story has not one non-white character --which seems both anachronistic and unnecessary.
Good for the story. Bad for the optics.

Emma thought this book was hilarious. The pig, Mercy Watson, was “so funny”. When we finished it, Emma immediately asked me to put the next book on hold at the library! That’s a winner to me!
Super cute and silly. I'd heard it was popular, but that generally doesn't mean a whole lot to me. But this was actually funny! It starts with Mercy Watson, a pig, who is scared to go to bed by herself in the dark. She climbs in bed with her parents and dreams about buttered toast. Suddenly, the floor below them creaks! Mercy doesn't even notice and instead runs off to find some buttered toast. Will her journey to find the perfect stack of buttered toast help her parents in their predicament, too?
