All Ali Hazelwood books are pretty much the same. I hope she works on that because they are mostly cute and fun. Ugh there was something borderline non-consensual about the start of the sex scene which - why?
Here's something all of her books have in common so far (it's ridiculous) :
Here's something all of her books have in common so far (it's ridiculous) :
- Big man / itty bitty small woman
- Man is in love from pretty much the start, but is too flustered or standoffish to show it (love theoretically was different thankfully, and I enjoyed it more tbh) this results in lots of stern staring contests. And the woman is like not picking up on any of the obvious signs when it does become more obvious.
- One or both MCs are some kind of Ace, or demisexual - but it seems to be brought up in a way that makes them just seem like a teenager having sex for the first time and not really knowing what they want/need - like a born sexy yesterday type trope. It's like a 'he/she didn't even want sex before they saw me!! That proves my self worth' type thing. It seems like a way to write twenty/thirty somethings as teenagers more than an honest representation of those aspects of peoples sexuality.
- Lots of miscommunication and self doubt.
- One or more MCs in stem, I quite like this one!
- FMC is quirky, this is usually fun ways, but quirks often make her seem young and very emotionally immature, so the main dynamic ends up being a bit parent/child like, which is NOT GOOD ALI!
- This is the first book where the MMC isn't wearing a Henley shirt. Obvious author favourite lol
- MMC often has more muscles than personality traits. Don't like this one.
- There's definitely more but it'll be too long.
But I'll probably keep reading them anyway goddamn it lol!

Ali Hazelwood's novels remind me of a Hallmark movie. Not the strongest writing, has some cliché moments, but overall it's cute and enjoyable. Being a novella this is more smut-with-plot than the other way around, but I'm certainly not complaining. I will be reading the other STEMinist novellas!

Are the characters and plots of Ali Hazelwood's books all exactly the same? Yes. Will I continue to read anything and everything she writes? Also yes.
