Yes I am shocked too. Ali Hazelwood gave me my favorite book of 2021 so maybe I went in with lot of expectations. Or maybe that I have had such a long reading slump that nothing pleases me anymore. But this novella didn't work for me at all. I just didn't like anything about it.

The beginning of this book was so wild to me because the whole situation that got us into this mess would never happen ever in real life. And while so many of Ali Hazelwood’s plots are overly dramatic, this is the first one that felt totally unrealistic. But the way the relationship between Mara and Liam develops actually felt pretty organic. There always seems to be a theme of terrible commutation between characters in every one of these books that’s drives me absolutely bonkers and yet here I am, finishing another one.
