I'm not sure at what point in this book I started loving it, but love it I did. And I can't even tell you why I loved it. Parts of it were difficult to get through and Dostoyevsky himself practically said "the dude's talking nonsense" after 4 pages of dialogue. I loved Raskolnikov almost despite myself; he was irritating and moody and a little insane but Sonia and Dounia's love for him infected me. And the ending was beautiful, a picture of Gospel forgiveness and renewal. It's a commitment, it's a drag sometimes, but it's worth it.

I feel like I could write a lot on this.
Though it did loose my interest - OMG ITS SO MUCH LONGER THAN I COULD MAINTAIN FOR! - I can appreciate how amazing it is.
I really enjoy Russian literature as the 'автор' isn't concerned about their own image (e.g. Nabokov).
This was interesting to read, to read into so much depth in the corrupted character that it becomes so real?!
SPOILER - Do I think the Russian justice system was too easy? Yes. Do I agree with Dostoevsky on what true crime is? No.

Dark, tense, and melancholic. This book spins you into the mind of a man on the edge. I enjoyed discovering with him what was happening after the pivotal event. The characters are emotionally complex and compelling to follow along this book.
“In the cities the bells rang all day long: everyone was being summoned, but no one knew who was summoning them or why, and everyone felt anxious.”
