Felt like running a marathon to read this one—a marathon that you didn’t train for and don’t know the route of. Ultimately very rewarding, though.
I thought that the permanently-unfinished status of The Castle would create a greater mystery that I wouldn’t be able to shake upon completion. While it is true that a mystery exists around the true ending of the story, I can’t help but feel that I understand it better because of the lack of definite end.

Very difficult to read, as Kafka didn't finish the book he didn't went through re-reading and correction either and this makes the reading of the book tedious, which at the same time emphasize the tedious process of the main character looking for sense like us the readers.
More than a pamphlet against administration I saw a critic of the the social norms we impose on ourselves and other because we think it's the right to do, even when we have no rational reason to think it is.

obviously it’s dreamlike and confusing (sometimes to a fault), but it just feels like a less interesting version of the trial (and its magnificent detail of never-ending bureaucracy), there’s so much yapping dialogue and although SOME of the character’s anecdotes are interesting, the protagonist is so unbelievably boring/stupid in his speech and thoughts that i don’t think i really cared about him whatsoever

This is simultaneously one of the most boring and insufferable books I've ever read, but also one of the most impressive and perfectly crafted books I've ever read. I hated this book so much, but that's also why I loved it.
Regardless of how much I hated reading this book (in the end), it is still one of my forever favourites. And the dread of reading it and how annoying it was to get through towards the end also felt perfect. It felt like that was exactly how the book intended to make you feel.
The atmosphere is incredible — so dreamlike and intriguing. The Castle is also a surprisingly funny book because of how absurd everything is. Nothing makes sense but at the same time it all makes perfect sense.
The Castle also contains my absolute favourite quote of all time:
“I can’t think of any greater happiness than to be with you all the time, without interruption, endlessly, even though I feel that here in this world there’s no undisturbed place for our love, neither in the village nor anywhere else; and I dream of a grave, deep and narrow, where we could clasp each other in our arms as with clamps, and I would hide my face in you and you would hide your face in me, and nobody would ever see us any more.”
