4.75 stars. Wow! This book crept up on me slowly and then hooked me ferociously in its tentacles. Exactly what I want in a page-turner: imperfect characters, a rich plot with brutal but believable twists and turns, and a very effective dual-timeline format. A tough read at times, but highly recommended!

I was drawn in by the cover of this one (I know, don’t judge a book by it’s cover) but I’m a bit gutted that this book wasn’t as good as I was hoping. I felt it was pretty slow and in the end, what was the point in the whole story? No idea. The main character wasn’t very likeable and there is quite a lot of mention of trauma/sexual abuse, which I didn’t expect at all! Just not for me this one.
The ending was ridiculous. The abuse was horrible. I was annoyed with the constant jumping around in time. I couldn’t keep track of the characters. Heller seems like she could be a good writer but this story wasn’t it.
