I don't think it's necessary be familiar with The Tempest to enjoy this, but from other reviews out seems clear that it's helpful. I might have liked this more from Dorothea's perspective, but overall this was a fun, gothic-esque, quick read that packed a lot in (almost in an attempt to "fix" Shakespeare's... issues?). Some of the fixing felt a little forced to me - or more like a fable with a very explicit moral? - but if you can handle the pacing of a novela, I thought this was a good one!
