This didn't feel like a very authentic representation of what it's like to be suicidal and so many things that happened in the book we're just comically unrealistic. Definitely not the realistic portrayal of mental illness I was looking for.

Significant glorification of mental illness, high school stereotypes, and suicide. Romanticized it wayyyyy too much, which I found abhorrent and unpleasant. I forced myself to finish it but wouldn't recommend to others.

I admit I struggled  connecting with either Finch or Violet. I will not speak about the accuracy of the portrayal of bipolar disorder since I don't have that illness but I have not particularly liked or care for the characters. Not the way I should have. Maybe I'm simply outgrowing YA. Maybe Jennifer Niven's writing just isn't my vibe.
