This book right here...ABSOLUTE CINEMA. Theodore Finch is literally me and I'm literally him.

Was originally going to give it a 2.5 for putting me into a slump for a bit, but it really wasn't that long of a slump.

And I've now realised it was most likely because I didn't want to read the ending!

That fucking letter he left her? I fucking cant. I love Finch so much. I wish that wasnt him who died

But i fear it most likely was. If your struggling like this, get help. People do care, and your an amazing person.

I really loved this book because it honestly helped me relate to what the main characters were going through and it helped me feel like I was not alone in my struggles.

In middle school I re read this book over and over again, each time rating it 5 stars. Revisiting this book as a senior in high school who has lost two people to suicide, specifically one my own age, it is a hard read. I struggled to get through this book.

I believe that this book beautifully displays the hardships of mental illness and trauma. It shows the growth and steps needed to overcome impending grief. However I still felt the book was written more for middle grade (obviously since it’s a YA), and personally I have grown out of my enjoyment of (most) YA novels.

Something I did not enjoy about this book, which is another reason I only have it 3 stars, was one of the main characters. I adore Violet, but Finch is the issue. I understand the author trying to showcase his mental illness and struggles. But from my point of view I did not like his character. Most of the things he did I got second hand embarrassment from.

However the movie of this book is phenomenal, and one of my favorites.
