Sadly not much happened in this I was interested in. The tension of why the box came back didnt grip me and thats the brunt of the story but I did enjoy following Gwendy on her life rising through politics and helping to solve a murder in her home town.

Wowed again really. Finished 1 & 2 and on to book 3 in under 24 hours. They are unputdownable.

I rated 3.5 and rounded up, only because I felt the ending was a little “and they lived happily ever after” for this particular story. I don’t feel like the second book should’ve been the one to have this; we shall see how that plays into book three though.

I thought this was an entertaining listen, and generally enjoyed it more than the first. The ending felt a bit too abrupt for me, almost like there was more story to be told that had to be skipped over to keep it at novella length - but perhaps the third instalment will scratch that itch.

What this has done, however, is convinced me I need to start reading some of Chizmar's own work. I thought he did an excellent job of capturing the Castle Rock tone, and can't wait to see what his own style is like.
