I simply adore this book. When I started reading it I was a little sleepy which I do not recommend. This book moves pretty quickly and jumps around to several main characters so it takes a little work to get into the rhythm of the text. Once you do, it is superb. The characters are vibrant and real and their interactions are full of depth and conflict.
A bit of it gets a little...medically icky. I read horror novels and am never bothered by violence or gore, but there are some parts in this that struck a chord: I had to put the book down for a little bit. This is because the author does such a great job creating the characters you believe them to be real and it gets a little difficult to read through some of the things they are experiencing.
This book is smart with quick-witted dialogue. It is certainly a novel I would read again and probably catch clever bits I missed the first time.
I recommend this book to everyone! I'm not sure if all audiences would like it, but it is worth a shot because it is that good.

I love love loved Haddon's first book, but this was a let down in my mind. Not a terrible book mind you, but as an example of how much of an impression it made on me, I read it once from the library and then bought it in the airport a few months later having completely forgotten I'd read it. Luckily the bookstore let me return it (uncracked) on my return flight.
A book filled with complex interactions where there was a need for communication in numerous areas. It was a moment that was both funny and heartbreaking at times. It was strange to read about how our minds can alter and how far the human mind can wander.

This book STRESSED ME OUT. Some very realistic portrayals of anxiety, to the point I didn't really find it funny, I was just on edge. It was very easy to read and I did enjoy it, but I had a completely different experience to what the quotes on the cover promised!
