see prev review: it's nostalgia read time! this sits right next to "from the mixed up files" on my shelf, though this is certainly a high school read, not a middle grade read. there's something so nice about this story, it's beautifully straightforward in its messaging that there is always reason to be kind and have community. the mice, the rats, the crows, the owl, they are all so separate except for the fact they come together to help one sick little baby mouse. the premise is neat and i love that the intelligence of the different species isn't treated as a barrier between them, just a difference in understanding. another win for nostalgia!

This book should be considered a classic and read with Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh (personally I liked it more than both of those). Reid LOVED it (even though there were some sad parts they leave it open ended and children are optimistic). The Reader was one of my favorites and that just made it better.

I grew up watching The Secret of NIMH, and I was surprised to learn how different the book is. It's a cute children's book that I'll read to my kids someday. Way less scary than the animated movie 😅

It's a bit odd to hear of the rats being super intelligent when all the animals are presented as unusually smart, but don't let details get in the way of a good story.

I loved the movie and I love the book.

I really enjoyed this book.  I'd seen the Disney movie when it came out, but I was in that weird age when I wasn't adult enough to probably appreciate it, but not young enough to have it be one of the movies that sticks out in my memory.
