Re-read by Audiobook during a road trip. One of my favorites- story, characters and message. Transcends time and relates today.

Pg. 148: "And, all winter, far into the night, we read books and we practiced writing." Swoon.

Catching up on my Newbery winners. Not sure I will follow through on all the ones about animals.

Borrowed from Hamilton Library at Franklin College. Finished at Coffee House Five in Greenwood.

I'm going back and reading classics with my daughter that I never got around to in my childhood. This was first on the list, and I'm so happy I finally read this! What a great science fiction book this was, reminding me greatly of one of my all-time favorites, Watership Down (and some of Adams' more darker themes in Plague Dogs). The story is loaded with great animal viewpoints on both the animal and human world, and really brings home some of the darker themes of how humans take advantage of the animal population. This also has the nine-year old's seal of approval and will keep us moving on this track of my lost classics (The Phantom Tollbooth is next!).

I am also very fond of extraordinarily handsome rats.
