Growing up on the West Coast, we learned about the Civil Rights Era in a way that glossed over how difficult and dangerous things were for those who were part of the movement. This graphic novel is very accessible but doesn't shy away from covering the darker aspects of the period. I'm so glad it exists, and I want every American to read it.

I loved that this book in the series was dedicated to the life of Senator and Civil Rights Activist John Lewis. It is very clear that these 2 white male creators wanted to pay their respects to him while he was still alive. After reading the first book, I'd love to finish the rest of the series. I believe that March would be perfect to teach kids about the importance of learning about our nation's dark racist history and teach them about how to stand-up against injustice. I'm so happy that these guys were able to get John Lewis to be a part of this before he passed away.
