A stylized retelling of the Papin sisters, the two maids who brutally murdered their boss and daughter in 1926 France. This graphic novel is fast paced and puts most of the focus on the lives of the sisters and their deep yet troubled bond to one another. A case of madness or a just rebellion against the ruling class? This graphic novel mixes both possibilities into the characterization of the now infamous sisters.

I found this graphic novel in the true crime section and had to grab it. A quick, colorful read that depicts two maids who actually did the crimes described in this book. If you want a fun, new way to look at crime... graphic novels. Pick this up!

Enjoyed the art style and atmosphere, but wanted more out of the story. Didn’t do anything for me beyond saying “huh what a crazy thing that really happened.”

You have no time to breathe, or comprehend, anything in this book. I picked this up because it looked disturbing but instead it failed miserably. I feel like I wasn’t given enough information about either Christine or Lea’s pasts. Flashbacks or little sprinkles of exposition didn’t provide enough and instead felt like more artsy, unexplained sequences. From a technical standpoint, I didn’t enjoy reading it because of how small the text was compared to how spacious everything was on the page. While I do applaud the author for putting in the effort to create that, I have to say it wasn’t developed enough for my taste.
