There were many beautiful and thoughtful passages in this book. It was very Japanese in the meditation on little details. At times it got too ponderous for me, and I didn't like the ending.

I guess I don't get it. How much detail about a fence and alley and the arrangement of the surrounding buildings is necessary? Pages and pages, apparently. I was so bored. Normally I cannot get through
an animal death
without crying but this book was not a problem. Dry. Also the translation has to be bad. It isn't possible the original contains so many English language cliches. Too bad.
