This book is triggering for anyone who grew up with narcissistic parents or experienced being a scapegoat for an extended period of time. Mary L. Trump, her father, and her brother, suffered under Fred Sr. and while this book sheds some light on how Donald Trump came to be, it ultimately is a sad and upsetting read.

Minus one star for a general lack of new material (most of this is public domain spare a handful of personal anecdotes) but four stars for putting the pieces together and finding meaning in the chaos.

Since my father's death, Donald has suggested that "they" (meaning he and my grandfather) should have "left" Freddy do what he loved and excelled at (flying) rather than force him to do something he hated and was bad at (real estate). But there's no evidence to suggest that my father lacked the skills to run Trump Management, just as there is non to suggest that Donald had them.

Mary's book reads like an angry older sister, who is pissed on behalf of her country. I really appreciated this. It leads one to understand the idiocies of the 45th President of the United States. I'm sure, when Political Science students have to study our period of time in history, this will be one of the books included. Unfortunate history in the making.

Very interesting in-depth history lesson into the Trump family as a whole. Think it certainly explains a lot. Would of liked more about the recent past included as well though, just a bit more than what was included but definitely enjoyed the book, couldn't put it down actually
