The story of a very messed-up family. As much about the author's father, whose own father she blames for her father's death, as it is the story of Donald Trump. Certainly makes me question whether our child protection laws and services are adequately protecting the children of the wealthy, who are almost never removed from their homes regardless of the degree of abuse.

This book is triggering for anyone who grew up with narcissistic parents or experienced being a scapegoat for an extended period of time. Mary L. Trump, her father, and her brother, suffered under Fred Sr. and while this book sheds some light on how Donald Trump came to be, it ultimately is a sad and upsetting read.

Minus one star for a general lack of new material (most of this is public domain spare a handful of personal anecdotes) but four stars for putting the pieces together and finding meaning in the chaos.

No rating. I think this book gave a good insight into why Trump is the way he is. It did this without allowing the reader to excuse Trump's actions as President. You get a good first-hand account of Trump being a trash bag, backed up by other family members.
