Hodně zajímavý náhled do jedné dost psycho rodiny, nicméně bych od někoho s doktorátem z psychologie čekala trochu hlubší náhled na věc.

45's niece is incredibly insightful as she tries to help us understand the inner workings of her narcissist family.

45 is a garbage human, but this book was interesting to hear some of the background that led to his being garbage and how some of his siblings are... wait for it... also garbage.

Mary L. Trump's memoir is a well-written family chronicle. She has lucid language and tells a credible story. We are about the same age so it's interesting for me to compare our experiences. I am not rich, but my life seems so much better.
In any case, Donald Trump is not the star of Mary Trump's story. That must piss him off. He is more like a troll that keeps showing up, each time a little more tawdry.
My one concern is the lingering doubt whether she would have remained quiet had she been paid off. My gut feeling is she would have just taken her place in line with the others as they marched across our democracy in their storm boots.

I went into this book knowing that there could be hard feelings on the side of the author due to family drama but knowing her educational background was hopeful that it would be helpful in understanding the complexity of the “character” of the man who is currently in the White House. Oh how it did!! The family dynamics that he lived in helped to shape the fear of failure and inability to see them or admit wrongs. The divisiveness he seems to crave is normal to him as it is all he has ever known. There is no excuse for his behaviors but now I better understand (my thoughts were confirmed) that in many ways he is a product of a mentally unhealthy family dynamic in which he has continued the cycle with his children.

This book by Don the Con's niece Mary reinforces my POV that Don the Con has the emotional depth of a deranged toddler. He regards empathy as weakness. The sun must revolve around him 24/7. He is devoid of compassion, basic human decency, intelligence, or morals.
That we ended up with this maniac as president proves to me that there are too many ignorant, reality show-watching losers in this country.

Fred Trump beat down everyone in his family—everyone, except his son, Donald. I don’t believe anyone is born bad: even the most self-obsessed tyrant was once an innocent child, in need of love and care. Donald Trump is still that child, deep down. He throws tantrums and bullies people because he was never nurtured. He was neglected at a crucial time in development and later rewarded for his bad decisions and behavior. Mary L. Trump writes of a spark of kindness that is no longer present in her uncle. I find it all kind of sad. It’s obvious Donald Trump is too far gone for any sort of redemption. He is the world’s most dangerous man and will never see the error of his ways. But when you factor in the cycle of abuse... my heart particularly aches for Mary L. Trump’s late father, Freddy. I wish someone had intervened and cared for the Trumps when they were children. Would they have turned out different?

Not what I was expecting. Wish I could give half stars bc this would be a 3.5. Felt like it had been rushed to be published and I wanted more. A lot was missing

Proof that your family lineage can have an extremely significant impact upon who you become as a person.
