Why did I enjoy this so much? Completely predictable, commitment to the “Savior” trope and absolutely not meant for a modern audience but damn, it was good, clean fun to read

A fun and quick classic sci-fi read. Burroughs has some real lines of poetry throughout the novel. I enjoyed it.

Pulp perfection, endlessly compelling storytelling, but even more than that - the introduction by Junot Díaz is extraordinarily astute, asserting that the reader dismisses The Princess of Mars as mere outdated racialist fantasy at their own peril.

Sci-fi's The Odyssey.

I maintain that Sola is the title princess. She and Tars Tarkas are what kept the rating above three stars. I love them so much.

Carter and Deja were more enjoyable than in the movie, though. Overall it's ye olde sci fi complete with long descriptions, science guesses, and a plot that, aha, jumps around.

Solid classic sci-fi. Just to dwell on the movie momentarily, I bet it will work out very nicely for international audiences - the source material is very strong and it leaves plenty of room to dialogue it up and do a little more character development than Burroughs had (not that it wasn't existent, it was just...more assumed than shown). Definitely worth the free download and read!

The pace for this narrative isn't fast, but the characters are fun and endearing, and the romance is very satisfying. ❤️
