This middle book in the series has a strong theme of putting the past behind. In the overall narrative, this makes sense as it seems that much of what has been considered the “way things are” gets upended. I enjoyed finally getting to dive into the main characters’ past, but some of it seemed pretty contrived in order to put them in particular areas of importance for what would happen in the plot. This one has a strong emphasis on the political aspect of the series, which I also enjoyed.

(Audiobook). I think this is setting up for a new villian, is my takeaway. I was a bit disappointed that Holden didn't cause more chaos with his transparency, but it does show growth on his part. Overall very good. Not as action packed as the previous ones.

Overall, very good. 4/5 for me.
SpoilerHowever, the stupid Clarissa Mao redemption arc showed its stupid head again. The revenge arc/story in Abaddon's Gate was terrible, and you could have ripped it out of the book, and it would have been fine. The redemption of the character, was terrible in that book, and it continues in this one. She just "decided" what she did was bad after murdering so many folks. There was no path. And now, most of the crew is ok with it? All but Holden who we all know will accept her. The Clarissa Mao stuff is so poorly handled in an otherwise well plotted story.
