I had to check out another of Heather Webber’s book because I just wasn’t ready to leave the warm and magical world she created. I love magical realism and this book perfectly represents what I enjoy about the genre. The story is compelling and interesting with a tension that does not feel manipulative or forced. I loose interest when logic is abandoned, like a character doing something completely contrary to how they’ve been developed because provides an easy resolution. This author keeps the contract with the reader that characters will evolve without complete divergence from who they are. If you enjoy Sarah Addison Allen’s books this is a book for you.
I long to stumble upon a small town such as Wicklow. To meet people such as Anna Kate. There is so much history and magic within them that you are just drawn to them. Much like this story. I could read it again and again and still be just as elated. Anna Kate is a character I can see myself in. She keeps everybody just far enough away that she won’t be hurt when she leaves because that’s all she has ever known. But the people of Wicklow have a different plan and they don’t intend on letting her push them away. Small towns are good for that. Anna starts to learn about her roots and she really grows as a character trying to figure everything out while getting Zee’s affairs in order. Is small town charm enough
Made for TV Movie in print -
This was a decent story, but it was not what I expected from reading the synopsis. The flow of the story was much like a random Lifetime Movie. It had secrets, family drama, budding romance, personal growth, mystery, and small town camaraderie.
It was a light and easy read, not a bad book, just not a NYT Bestseller either.
