I figured out 20 pages in that this author is not from the South. Look, I'm not one of those folks who thinks you have to stay inside your own experience, but it shouldn't be so obvious it's not your experience.  Also, there are literal magic black people who help the white people find love and happiness. Gag.

This book was utterly charming and so enjoyable. I loved how southern it was and I loved the slightly magical world it created. A lot of sweet thoughts about love, loss, healing, and family. Would recommend to anyone.

DID NOT FINISH: 29%

This book was interesting, and I did enjoy the writing. The southern town was very adorable. However, the book turned out not exactly as I thought. I was uncomfortable reading about The Blackbirds, and the different "songs/sayings" that revealed the secrets of Anna Kate's 'heritage'. I decided to put the book down.
