Life really got in the way of finishing this book. Rather folksy story of a woman taking over a cafe where the pies and magical blackbirds have the power to bring insights from people who have died. A bit of cookery, a bit of romance, a bit of sentimentality about community spirit in small town America. But a pleasant enough distraction on a long journey.

Overall this was a good read, nice and relaxing to read in my downtime. Wasn’t super exciting but was enjoyable.

I absolutely love this book. I love the characters and their development. As someone who grew up in the area, it really rang true and authentic, even if every now and then I thought, “that’s not how we’d say that.” I love the story and the mystery. I don’t believe in spoilers so it’s hard to explain more but if there were a Blackbird Cafe, I would totally be making a trip next time I go home, though I’m not sure I’d eat the pie.
