This is the type of romance i like. It’s more subtle than most romance novels . I liked the tiny bit of magical realism .
All in all, a sweet book.

This book started off strong, I was really drawn in by the concept of her family folklore and their connection to the afterlife through the blackbirds. However, I felt like this cool concept was often passed over for a generic romance subplot with characters that were more or less just one-note. That being said, I listened to the audiobook which often alters my experience for the worse. I didn’t like the Natalie perspectives, I also felt like there needed to be more reporter POV for it to make sense. It seemed like the characters overreacted to small things, I would’ve appreciated the drama to live up to the hype they were giving it. I did like the complicated family dynamic though.
