When Anna Kate's beloved grandmother Zee passes away, Anna Kate is left with the responsibility of The Blackbird cafe. Zee's will says Anna Kate must run it for at least 2 months before she can sell it. Never one to break a promise, Anna Kate takes her place. But over the course of those 8 weeks, Anna Kate finds her self falling in love with the town and the people in it.

This is a beautiful story about family, loss, and finding one's place. I adored getting to know the people in this quantum town right alongside Anna Kate.

I did end up liking the characters and the little town. I thought the story was interesting, even if a bit slow. My biggest hang up was that Anna Kate was supposedly so close with her grandmother who lived in the town but she was a complete mystery since her mom raised her all over the US. How were they so close then?

What a heartwarming little gem of a read. This kind of reminds of The Wedding Bees, where nature (bees, or blackbirds) knows best. This is a modern day small town story that addresses finding oneself through, grief, healing, forgiveness, family and love… with a little sprinkling of magic. Delightful.
