Liked the premise of the story and the cult vibes. Really shed light on the fact that evangelicalism and religion can be used in a good and bad way. I was only frustrated by the main character jumping to conclusions. I wasn’t surprised about the first two twists but the very end did take me by surprise a little.

I loved this book. It kept me hooked the whole time, exploring real issues we see with evangelical churches. Was the writing the best writing ever? No, but it was entertaining and kept me guessing which is the point.

SISTREN. !!!! It's been a bit since I listened to an audiobook that made me want to sneak little 10-second bits at a time because I couldn't bear to be away from it. I was enthralled, and as an ex-evangelical church girly, everything about this was delicious. I read a lot of mystery/thriller books where there's physical violence, which is of course very scary and makes the MC feel unsafe. But I loved that in this book, so much of the violence was sneaky and quiet. It's making sure that no one believes you. It's separating you from your parents. It's telling you that you were born a disgusting slut and that you have to use every minute of your life to distance yourself from that. And I think it takes a really careful and talented writer to make a reader feel just as scared of these sneaky manipulations as of physical violence. I can't wait to read more by this author. And the narrator was such a good fit. Ooh! What a good time. Perfect book for the weird tradwife moment that we're having.

Loved this book, LOVED the ending. As a woman who was raised Mormon (I left when I was 25), this book was incredibly accurate of the emotional and psychological long term effects a cult has on you. Would recommend!
