I will definitely read it again from time to time. His writing is so fun to read. He is not preaching or lecturing which makes the book so approachable. Anyone who is interested in learning how to write a story should start with this book because it doesn’t challenge you enough to discourage you. It gets you excited about writing which is what most of us need to take that first step.
5.0⭐ Essential
This is my third reading of On Writing. It was so nice to hear it in Stephen's voice. Stephen King is a very personal author, he's always connected with his readers, and when he writes in his own voice, to an audience of his readers or peers, he speaks like he's known them for a while, like they're one of his oldest friends. On Writing is a message to those of us speaking another language, a language he's incredibly fluent in. I think every writer, best friend of a writer, or spouse of a writer should read it. It's a great insight into things you or your writer friend may not be able to articulate, with solid no-bullshit advice about writing - and caring for your writer. If you're a reader of King, you'll enjoy the autobiographical sections, he's lead an interesting life, anyone would find themselves entertained. I can't stress this next part enough, if you're a writer, do not read via audio FIRST. Make that your second or third read. The audio doesn't include his in-depth methods of editing, which is essential, but wouldn't translate well with audio. Seeing his first draft of 1408 is like seeing the magician reveal how he did his amazing trick. Until next year, or until I don't need it anymore.

Inspiring! Stephen King explains how he ended up being a writer and has inspired me to revise the two books I've drafted to date and to carry on with more writing. I have gained respect for him and now want to read some of his "classics." The biggest take home messages are to be honest, read a lot and write a lot. Read the book to learn more or to confirm what you already know.
