I love this man so much, I wish he could come and run the UK. Read this book, it will make you understand so much more about the last decade. It also gives an insight into the rise of Trump and how much the media are to blame. We need to stop clicking on articles about hateful people because it gives them a platform, us all laughing at Trump before he became president contributed to his becoming president.

Obama comes across as kind, sensitive, decent, intelligent and humble in this account of his first term in office, and the book explains a lot about why some decisions had to be made and why some comrpomises were reached. I really think it's one for everyone with any sort of interest in politics or America.

Epic Memoir of the the first Black President of America. Hard going in some parts but worth a read . Looking forward to the second book of his memoir.

Barack Obama has always been one of the most admirable and lovable public figures to me. This memoir only confirmed it! A beautiful tale of personal narratives, the troubling balancing act of campaigning and raising a family, and a closer look into the day to day decisions that go into running the country. Some of the foreign policy was hard for me to follow, but I found all 29 hours made him even more relatable and endearing. If I had to choose, Michelle’s Becoming would get my vote haha, but both incredible! Can’t wait until the next part!!

Finally an opportunity for President Obama to be as long-winded and nuanced as he likes (or at least as his editor allows lol). I appreciated being taken through his thought processes and getting a glimpse into the role (and responsibility) of the president of the United States. Looking forward to the next volume.

Okay here’s the thing, it was a good book, it just wasn’t what I hoped it would be. I’ve read „Becoming“ from Michelle Obama several years ago and LOVED it. So I really wanted „A promised land“ to be kind of a .. „Becoming 2.0“ just from Barack’s pov - and sadly it was not. It was more focused on politics and every tiny decision he made during his first term than on him as a person and that disappointed me a bit. I wanted to understand how he became the president he was, which events shaped his personality and his beliefs, how he grew up, how being president influenced him. That’s why it started to drag a bit for me because we were stumbling from one political maneuver to the next.

A heavy but amazing read. Earnestly and honestly unpacks his presidency - the good and the bad. Lots of reflection. Lots of vulnerability. It did take me a while to get through lol but was really worth it. Will definitely be reading the future Part 2
