I think unreliable narrators are hard to do, and that this one missed the mark a bit. To me the problem was the amount of times she admitted she was lying and said "I don't know why I lied; it's a compulsion" because it took the fun out of deciding when to trust her. I did really enjoy the last chapter, I think it made me enjoy it much more than I had before. This book has stuck with me quite strongly since I've read it.

I like books where nothing happens but not this one. The way this book was written, while weirdly engaging, it had a stream of consciousness feeling to it that kind of just drifted along. And there wasn't enough weight to anything to drive the tension I think the book was trying to get at. It felt like a journal- just a logging of details with some naval gazing and occasional metaphors thrown in.
So while things happened, it felt like nothing happened, and there was no payoff for the nothing so...

I know the protagonist is supposed to be an unreliable, semi-insufferable privileged narrator, but I think the author's intent worked a little too well
