Although the book and movie were as different as night and day, they are both very good.

I saw this book classified as "horror". It definitely wasn't that but still it was pretty interesting. Not what I expected at all.

An effective, creepy book about a man who gains psychic abilities after being hypnotized. A central theme was the underlying malice found in seemingly idyllic suburban life (a theme found in many of Stephen King's books-I was not surprised to find out King was majorly influenced by Matheson). Written in 1958, I'd say it was ahead of its time. Glad I read it in October.

How the HELL is this on the list of "Movie better than the book"? Um, yeah, no.

I didn't mind the Kevin Bacon movie so much, but it was so damn schizophrenic and hard to follow. This book is FAR more in depth, and while it didn't scare the everliving crap out of me, it's just the right amount of scary and suspenseful to keep me going.

Also, the who-dunnit throughout? He totally screwed me up, because I knew when he touched the comb that the person in question had done it, but then he flipped it all around on me and changed my mind and just bravo, sir, bravo.

Excellent book. Excellent, and you really CAN'T tell it's set in the 50's.

This was pretty good. A very quick read about a guy who, after becoming hypnotized at a party, begins to experince some paranormal abilities.

Matheson can tell a story, that's for sure, and since this one is told mostly via dialogue and first person narrative, you're finished before you know it.
I don't really have a whole lot more to say about it because
a) I'm really busy, and
b) yeah, it's Matheson, so if you like him you'll like this.

So, a short review for a 200 pager. I liked it. Recommended.
