Picked this as my Kindle First book for August. I enjoy a good rom-com movie or TV show every now and then (although they're all the same after awhile, but still good for a fluffy, fun watch), but I'd never read a rom-com novel.

I can honestly say I didn't fall in love with the book, but I did enjoy it and always looked forward to what was going to happen next. The scenarios are a little outrageous, the characters a little unbelievable at times, but the dialogue and Mia and Paul's interactions were cute and fun. I like reading books set in all types of locations, and it was exciting to read about life in Paris, as I'd never visited there before (but it's on my bucket list). Also liked that the book moved along quickly, very few slow parts. The supporting characters were funny and quirky, too, in their own ways.

However, I wasn't a fan of the writing style or the prose...lots of head-hopping in various scenes, which made it confusing to know who was talking or whose POV we were reading from. Writing was also choppy at times. I'm not sure how much of it was lost in translation, though. Sometimes I'd have to look back a paragraph, or a page, to figure out who was doing and saying what. Not much description of characters or scenery, and I had no idea what anyone looked like, really. And I didn't feel much chemistry between Mia and Paul, though strangely enough, I wanted them to end up together in the end (which, thankfully, being a rom-com, they did, despite not looking that way for awhile!). And what was with the characters muttering things to themselves all the time? Was funny at first, but then grew to be annoying. Nobody I know mutters that much IRL.

The plot ended up playing out like your typical rom-com...boy and girl meet, deny their feelings for one another, some complication forces them apart, and they find their way back to each other at the end.

This book is written with multiple viewpoints in third-person.

With that being said, I did enjoy this tale about a movie star and a novelist going through their trials and tribulations, to fall in love at the end. It did keep me interested all the way up until the end. I'd recommend this for any rom-com fans and anyone who's looking for a cute, breezy read.

My first DNF for the year. What an absolute bore! I couldn't even understand the point of the story. It rambled and had characters with no connections. The author didn't quite know whether to reveal the history of the characters; he started and then stopped abruptly in the midst of the explanation and switched gears.

Granted, I didn't know that it was a translation so perhaps this critique is for the person who translated rather than the original author.

This was sooooo cute!

There were moments I wanted to strangle Mia for keeping Paul in the dark like she does. But all in all, a cute story.

What a fun book! I confess that the first 20% had me a little frustrated waiting for our two main characters to meet, but once the did.... A light-hearted, warm, romantic comedy that I thoroughly enjoyed. Will read more by this author.

This one took me a bit to get into and I never got really fully immersed in it. I think my problem was that I didn't really like either of the main characters. It ended well enough and had some interesting plot twists that I enjoyed.

The characters were just not very likable and a bit self-involved. Mia is an actress whose marriage is falling apart, so she's fled her life and is basically hiding out in Paris with her best friend and restaurant owner. Paul is an author who left his family and friends behind to live in Paris (something I never fully understood the reason for). Through an online dating profile, they end up on a date - Paul tricked by his friends (who are concerned for him) and Mia basically having assumed the identity of her friend.

What follows is sort of a friendship and sort of a courtship - as much as it can be when one is married and lying about who they are while the other thinks they are in love with someone else. Paul bothered me a lot less than Mia, he's at least honest and really is a good person I think. Mia's selfishness and lying was frustrating - because she seems to keep falling back on those patterns rather than growing out of them.

I don't regret reading P.S. from Paris - it has some good moments and some humor - but I don't really think it was my kind of book. I'd hesitate to read more from Marc Levy, even though his writing was good and the plot was ultimately interesting.

The story was cute! I loved the character development & unexpected twists & turns. Some of the narration was a bit off due to translation, but it wasn't enough to diminish my enjoyment of the book. I found myself intrigued by the intimate love story between the two main characters, even though it was a pretty unlikely romance.
A great book to add to my list as a fun & lighthearted experience.
