I really enjoyed this book! The characters were intriguing and, I loved the red herrings- it kept me guessing and re- guessing for the whole book! I look forward to reading more books by this author!

A page-turning thriller. Elspeth McKenzie is a rich elderly lady who hires a live-in care-taker. Her adopted daughter is jealous of these young girls and has a secret. When the care-takers begin to die by various means, the next girl begins to wonder if she is safe in this job. The author has many twists in the novel and has you guessing all the way to the end.

I’m not sure why but I really struggled to get through this. It’s the kind of book I usually enjoy but I just didn’t feel gripped by it and by the end I wasn’t even too bothered who was responsible. That being said, it wasn’t a bad book at all. Just didn’t grab my attention like some of her other books have.

I listened to the audiobook and read in-between. The narration was great! It was an easy listen and I was able to bump up the speed. I enjoyed my time with this book and was intrigued by the premise.

After I sat on my thoughts, it felt very 'Lifetime movie' to me. I was very much into it yet at the same time I didn't care for the characters. I felt a little off-balance while reading. The creep factor was there though! I think that's what kept leveling me back.

I did like the twists and did not see the ending coming, but found it a little out there and flat. All in all, though, it was a nice escape! 3.5 stars rounded up.

Gave me Ruth Ware vibes. 3.5

I picked up this book after enjoying The Couple at Number 9, and I was left a bit disappointed. I found it very slow and not particularly tense or suspenseful for a thriller, and it only really seemed to pick up momentum and grab my interest in the last 50 pages or so. I feel like this is a general storyline I've seen elsewhere and executed more satisfyingly. That said, it wasn't a BAD read (I did finish it, after all), and I'm interested to see what Douglas' other books are like.

2 stars for the story, +1 for the midbook twist

This was kind of a slog for a thriller, but there was a big twist midbook that I didn't see coming AT ALL and that kept me reading.
