I spent most of the book confused about what was going on - the split between fantasy and reality was hard to comprehend at times

This one really pulled at my heartstrings. I can’t really say much about it right now since it’s still fresh and I’m still crying.

Woah. Such a rollercoaster of a gripping book. I was hooked - no pirate puns intended. So happy I came across this in our local bookstore. It will be on my shelf to read again as I believe it will be one of those that you reread and continue to pick up on details each time.

Let me just say that this book is good. 3 stars isnt a bad review. I liked the mystery behind it and how the story included fantasy/magical realism but unfortunately I kept finding myself distracted and not as interested as I've seen other reviews. I still liked this book and am very excited for this authors next works.

I was drawn to this book because of the setting: Scotland, and the focus on sisters. After finishing, I'm not sure what to think.

This is a book about very damaged people. At first, the fixation on make-believe and childhood annoyed me, although you eventually put together why Cat is talking about her childhood imaginary friends as real people. I did get goosebumps along the way, and some of the twists were unexpected, while some predictable. The plot continued to spiral a couple more paces when I expected conclusions.

As for the narration: the cadence and delivery was often off for me. It wasn't about accents (I lived in Scotland so I'm comfortable with that!), but how the narrator emphasized certain words in a robotic voice. And the higher-pitched children voices were very grating.

I thought I would love this book but I didn't. I think it is because there are so many different genres woven into the story. If the author had stuck to one genre I would have liked it better.

Mirrorland is a creepy tale of twin sisters, El and Cat. When El is presumed dead after her sailboat sinks, Cat returns to "the Mirror House". She dreads returning to the house where she and her twin lived with their mother and grandfather. She hasn't been back in 12 years. She returns to find Ross, El's husband, grieving. As she moves through the house, she relives the fantasy of Mirrorland created by the twins, remembering all the characters and the secrets.
Cat is convinced that El is alive, but the evidence doesn't support her theory. As Cat receives sinister notes and clues, she isn't sure what to believe.
This is a novel filled with dark secrets-and it also has a nod to "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King.
