THIS IS EVERYTHING. SERIOUSLY!!!
This was intense, frustrating, heartbreaking and wonderful all at the same time. The story is all kinds of awful but it was so very well told and handled so very respectful. I had goosebumps, I had some tears in my eyes, towards the end of the book I may have cried a few tears of joy. What a rollercoaster ride.
Also, I could listen to Paul Holes reading the names and numbers of the telephone book (are they even still a thing?) and I would hang on every word he has to say. He is just THAT guy.
Man, this was powerful. I will totally listen to this one again.

I've read up quite a bit on GSK, so there was a lot I already knew, but that was fine. There was new information I'd never heard before and to hear it from personal eyewitnesses and investigators of the case was really powerful. Especially the triumphant end that came after years and years of hard work on the part of investigators and waiting and nerves on the side of victims. Hearing all about how geneology played such a big part in the arrest was very cool as well.
Chilling and the perfect companion to I'll Be Gone in the Dark
TW : sexual assault and murder
This felt like listening to a very well done documentary that was clearly made to honor the victims and shed light on the grueling and ground-breaking work that led to the resolution of the case. I learned so much from it. Hearing from people who worked on the case and some of the victims was such an interesting, fascinating experience and made this audiobook phenomenal.
One of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to.

Absolutely amazing! It's a very well put together story of all the hard work that went into the capture of The Golden State Killer. I am so amazing at all the detail that was put into this Audible. I may have to go back and listen again to pick up any things I may have missed in my excitement!

After enjoying Michelle McNamara’s I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, I was ready for Evil has a Name. But, I was worried that it might travel too much of the same ground. Boy, was this amazing. The voices, the interviews with victims and family members, the attention to detail with the case... STELLAR. I was on the edge of the seat and surprised by how my emotional reactions to the work. Take my advice and give it a listen - but, be warned it is disturbing in places.
Format: Audiobook
Resource: Audible
Narrator(s): Various
Trigger Warnings: Sexual Assault, Rape, Murder
Not my first choice of book. I do like true crime documentaries though. When I saw that this audiobook had various narrators I thought I would give it a try. I did like the narration, it felt very much like a documentary you would see on Netflix or the History Channel.
It was gruesome and horrific topic but I'm happy i listened to it. The story is told by Paul, an investigator during a good portion of the Golden State Killer, which underwent various names through it's course. We follow his train of thought, process decisions and interviews (or at least the who portion). I cannot express how the narration made it easier for me to "enjoy" (for lack of a better term). I was satisfied with the ending, it gave hope.
Rating Breakdown:
Storyline: 4.5
Narration: 5
Overall Rating: 4.75 (rounded up to 5)
