4.13 AVERAGE

A behemoth of novel about sums it up! Strike and Robin are hired by a politician to get dirt on an opponent which turns into more when they realize the man who hired them is being blackmailed. When he commits suicide, the blackmailers reveal a dark past, and more questions come to the surface while Strike is confronted with Charlotte and Robin and Matthew grow further apart.

Reasons I Recommend:

1) I quite enjoy the detective guesswork and who done it aspect

2) Robin and Strike’s unlikely friendship while they work so well together and tiptoe around each other’s relationships and

3) Another mystery solved gives more clout to the fleeting agency.

Another engaging book in this series. The clues and hints that Strike and Robin uncover and piece together always paints a shocking (to me personally) final reveal.

She (J.K. Rowling a/k/a Robert Galbraith) has done it again. Nearly as amusing and certainly unputdownable as the previous 3 books in the series. I've only figured out one of her mystery who-done-its in advance, and that was because I knew more about the method than your average reader. Or maybe I just paid better attention that time, because these others have thrown me for a loop, each and every one. She's good with the red herrings and false leads. And with characters I care about and what to read again and again.

Best of the Cormoran Strike series so far

Overall I enjoyed this albeit more for the ongoing plot between Robin and Strike. It was also far too long and should have been at least 150 pages shorter. Nevertheless the unravelling of the case towards the end was still far from straightforward and seemed poorly explained even with the 600 pages of buildup.

Insanely complex, but gripping throughout. I am left wanting more and ready for the next book!

How long do we have to wait for the next one??
