This book starts s.l.o.w.l.y. The first part that sets up the story and continues where Robin’s personal life left off in the previous book seemed to take for ever to get through. But part two of the book moved so much faster and was so much more engrossing.
Finally!!! I liked the book, but it was soooo long I could not wait until it was over.
Interesting mystery; about halfway through I wondered how there could be so much book left, but then, of course, more things happened. I love, love, LOVE Robin Ellacott with the fiery passion of 1000 suns. I like Cormoran too, of course, but I think I'm starting to read these more for Robin than for him.
Spoiler
Though I'm starting to get a little peeved that Robin is the one that is time and again put in physical jeopardy. She should get to save Cormoran too.Spoiler
So do you think the mansion with the swans in the gate at the end were a callback to Robin and Mathew's wedding photo session, or is it foreshadowing something yet to come?

The fourth installment did it to me. I, finally, found the character dynamics quite likable. Twisted, not too healthy, questionable? Yes. But also in a way understandable, and entertaining. The mix between the relationship dynamics and the crime aspects make this series outstanding to me. And this is also the only reason why I accept the length of these books (and the stupid actions Robin sometimes takes). At least I get some good drama in.

1. I loved this outing with Strike and Robin!
2. DO NOT START THE SERIES WITH #4! START FROM THE BEGINNING!
3. What a narrator. The story is wonderful but Glenister's accents simply elevate the whole experience. Wow. I'm tempted to go back and re-listen to nos. 2 and 3 (I re-listened to #1 while waiting for #4 to come out!) all over again.
4. Characters, development, settings. . . . all wonderful. I have to ponder the denouement (I'm an English teacher; I get to use snotty language sometimes) a bit: a LOT unfolds there, and I was listening and trying to find quiet things to do around the house that didn't take thinking about, so I probably missed a bit. However: wow. Deftly plotted. NOT as explosively terrifying as #3, which had me pulling my car over to calm my nerves in broad daylight, but still: compelling.
5. When's the next one coming out?
6. HOW DOES SHE THINK OF THESE PLOTLINES?
