i’m in 100% agreement that THIS is the best warrior cats book ever written. it’s the best one, period. later, more modern WC books only has two or three background subplots going on. the prophecies begin, and especially forest of secrets, has countless ones:

tigerclaw’s conspiracy to become leader; bluestar’s missing kits in riverclan; yellowfang being brokentail’s mother; cinderpaw’s commitment to being a medicine cat; graystripe’s affair with silverstream; cloudpaw’s struggles with identity and become an apprentice; fireheart’s relationship with spottedleaf and her prophecies.

i’m almost any other book, this information would just be too messy and confusing to handle. but somehow, forest of secrets lays it all out like a quilt and has it all intersect. a training day with cloudpaw turns into a battle with tigerclaw. cinderpaw’s experience as a medicine cat aligns with silverstream’s death. it’s absolutely genius and i absolutely love the drama it brings.

the ending is also absolutely gutting, which i didn’t expect at all. graystripe and fireheart’s relationship cannot be replicated later in the series. their bond is extremely strong and the last three pages of the book, where graystripe has to choose between his kits and fireheart, truly make you hold your breath. this is a book about CATS.

This was the best one so far because there was more plot. It was also a lot sadder and things are really starting to move.

Still not the greatest series I've read, of course, but it does it's job well and I would have adored it when I was younger.
